Galway Triathlon Club has announced the return of the Beginners Morning to its calendar for 2016, taking place in the Salthill Hotel and Ocean Fitness on Saturday January 23 from 9.30am – 1pm. Galway Triathlon Club's Kevin Thornton was triumphant in the longest race at Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon, in Gort on Sunday.

Westport Triathlon Club is hosting the Westport Triathlon on Saturday, June 15. Tri Lakes Triathlon Club has launched its annual race The Quiet Man Triathlon which takes place on Sunday, May 12 in Cong, Co Mayo. This race consists of a 750 metre swim in Lough Corrib, following by a 20km out and back cycle and a 5 km trial run in Cong Woods.

A new swim in the Shannon has been announced. A sister race to last year’s Flatline half marathon, the swim will take place on Saturday June 22, just weeks ahead of triAthlone.

Liquid Motion Triathlon Club and G.M.I.T. Castlebar are delighted to announce the launch of Castlebar Sprint Distance Triathlon 2013 on Sunday, April 21. Over 150 athletes are expected to compete on the day, ranging from the experienced to the first time novice. Already some of the West’s leading triathletes have signed up to take part in the event including last year’s winners Ruairí Geraghty (Galway Triathlon Club) and Rachel Glendon (Wicklow Triathlon Club). The race itself will consist of a 750m swim (30 lengths) which is taking place at Castlebar Swimming Pool, a 20km cycle through the surrounding countryside and then back into Castlebar for the 5km run. For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a sprint distance race such as this offers a fantastic way to dip your toe, so whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or you’re taking on your very first challenge, this event will provide the perfect setting for it.

With the numbers already exceeding all expectations, the inaugural Great Fjord Swim has really garnered great interest from experienced swimmers and newbies alike. Taking place for the first time in the beautiful harbour of Killary on October 13, competitors will experience the thrill of open water swimming in Ireland’s only fjord - this is sure to be a brilliant challenge for participants of all abilities from beginners to regular tri-athletes. And, there is €2,000 in cash prizes for competitors on the day.
